Workforce Housing Competition
The Missing Middle Housing Fund (MMHF) stimulates the creation of new workforce housing through scalable innovations that reduce development costs. It achieves this mission, in part, by discovering, proving, and commercializing or spreading innovations anywhere in the housing production value chain.
We know from our research that many of these innovations already exist, but since housing creation is generally hyper-local and bespoke, new ideas spread slowly, if at all. For this reason, MMHF has decided to launch its first statewide Workforce Housing Innovation (WHI) Competition to surface and test the best innovations.
The competition has 2 phases. The Request for Innovation (RFI) below invites innovators and/or teams to propose their cost reduction strategies. Our Review Committee will then select the best to move on to Phase 2 in early 2022. The ultimate winners of the competition will then be asked to engage in a real-world housing delivery project later in 2022 to validate the impact their innovations can make. For more details on the application process please see below.
We are looking to have 17 housing creation experts on our Review Committee, and have filled 12 spots. We are currently looking for an additional 5 Review Committee members with the following expertise:
-
Construction Estimating
-
Prefabrication
-
Innovative Land Assembly
-
Rural Development
Please contact Nathan Wildfire at Nathan.wildfire@missingmiddlehousing.fund if you’d like to be considered for the Review Committee or have someone you’d like to recommend.
